How Can I Tell How Optimized My Website Is?

Unfortunately unless you have tracking on your website there is no real way to know for sure what words a search engine has as being the keywords for your website.

You can however complete this simple test for your homepage just to try to get a basic idea of how your site would rank. Firstly start by making a list of the top 10 keywords that you would have a user type into a search engine to find your website. Now that you have these top 10 keywords, go to the home page for your website and count how many times each of those words are actually used.

Now that you have your list of keywords with a homepage count, do a quick scan over the homepage and see if you can notice what the five most frequently used words on your homepage actually are. Ensure you exclude sentence structure words such as 'and', 'the' and 'is'. This may seem like a difficult task but it is surprisingly simple and will often result in a list of words very different to the list you initially wrote.

If you notice that you top 5 are in fact different to your desired top 10, then you definitely need to look at conducting an SEO review. If you can see one or two, then perhaps an SEO review would be benficial as you have some words being used frequently but other are not. If you notice that all 10 are your most used terms then you probably do not need an SEO review, however it is important that you maintain this level where possible to ensure that yous business always appears on page one.
