What to Watch out for when Performing SEO

Many websites in the past have done very sneaky things to attract visitors, such as including word blocks of keywords that do not relate to the actual content of the site simply to attract visitors.

Some websites made of habit of placing most searched terms on their site simply to increase visitors, such as 'free'. This is certainly a practice to avoid when optimizing a site.

These days... search engines are a little bit more intelligent and use complex algorithms to establish what a page contains and what value it holds when a users completes a search. By using keywords or meta information that does not really relate to your site, your run the risk of getting labelled a 'junk' site. 'Junk' sites do not really have any value to search engines because the content is seen to be poorly described or tagged, is not original and realistically holds no value to any other internet users.

Now you may be thinking 'that isn't very fair' but being an internet user yourself, how would you feel if your favourite search engine simply started pulling up ad pages for every search you did simply because advertising and spamming pages contain keywords of all words you are searching simply for the purpose of attracting visitors? Many people would change search engines because no one wants to sift through pages of results to find what they want, that is what the search is done for, to find something.

With this in mind, try to avoid placing open, generic words into your website unless they are genuinely apart of your business. The more honest you are about your meta information, the higher it shall be regarded. It is also important to remember that sometimes, less is more when completing keywords.
